Playing Nurse

My mother had total knee replacement at the end of February. That semi-explains my absence. I've been running a bit ragged, taking care of her and my spoiled grandmother, who likes to be waited on hand and foot. My mom was usually the one to do that, but since she's pretty much out of commission until she recovers, I'm that one. I'm not typically a caretaker. I have horrible patience and I'm just not good with waiting on people, so imagine the stress I was initially undergoing and imagine the drinking I started out doing. In the morning, I'd have to set my mother up for the day: get her fresh water, set some fruit, OJ, meds by her bed, give her a blood-thinning shot (to prevent clots in the leg), etc, etc, then get to work, run home, feed them (mother, grandmother & cats), then cleanup, give meds, shot, fresh water, set her knee up with ice packs and get to bed to start it all over again.

Luckily, she's recovering very well. It hasn't even been a full month and she's walking throughout the house without her walker. She's doing a lot more for herself, but I'm still relied on for the most part. It's less of a hassle now, though, because I don't have to give the shots anymore and she can do much more by herself. I'm able to be out amongst civilization again, sing with my friends again (yes, we still do karaoke and even picked up the new SingStar 90s game just last night), drink with my friends, do wedding stuff, etc.

I'm not really sure of the point I was trying to make with this blog, but that's just a brief update of what I've been up to lately. I think I needed that quick explanation before I delve into my next post. Stay tuned.
